This set of intricately sculpted metallic chess pieces have been lovingly produced in the UK based on Lewis Carroll's iconic characters from "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass". Made from weighty, stone crushed resin, the main characters from these beloved tales are brought to life in these superb pieces (inspired by John Tenniel's original Alice illustrations).
Lewis Carroll wrote the timeless Alice tales to entertain the young children of his family friends the Liddell's. During his time as a lecturer at Christ Church Oxford, Carroll utilised The Dean of Christ Church Henry Liddell's eldest daughter Alice as the inspiration for his protagonist. It was Lorina Liddell, Henry's wife, who persuaded Carroll to publish his stories after she saw her children so engaged in the tales.
First published in 1865, Alice's adventures continue to captivate people of all ages to this day.
