Regency Chess Company History

2008The original trading company began life in 2005, selling cheaply imported chess and backgammon sets online in the early days of e-commerce. In 2008 the business changed entirely and The Regency Chess Company was born. The mission was to source and bring the best quality chess sets and associated products to market. Trips were made around the world by the founder of the business, Julian Deverell, to establish relationships with the very best producers of chess products.

2010The original company had humble beginnings and was run from a house in the city of Bath in the UK. By 2010 things had grown significantly and the business moved into a purpose-built warehouse, employed staff, and, within a few more years, became the UK's largest retailer of chess sets.

2018In 2018 we set up Regency Chess USA with a dedicated website for USA buyers offering tax-free sales with free or highly competitive shipping rates.

Moving forwardsThe whole company prides itself on our legendary customer service, superb product quality, and the professional presentation of our products and services online. During the last fifteen years, we have sold thousands of chess sets to happy customers and are delighted to be promoting the game of chess to the world.

We specialize in the sourcing of fine chess sets. We sell a range of chess pieces, chess boards, storage cases, chess clocks, and a range of other traditional games, including Backgammon and Mah Jong. We will often source various elements of the set from different suppliers and combine them to create the very best chess sets. For example, we may combine some Lewis Chessmen that have been hand-made in England with a luxury chess board from Italy, thus creating a unique product. We use our years of expertise to match the right boards with the pieces to ensure you are buying the very best combination.
