The Regency Chess Company was established in 2008 in the City of Bath, a famous World Heritage site in England. We commissioned this chess set as our signature luxury product, with inspiration drawn from the features seen in the buildings, which in their turn, echoed those discovered below ground in the ancient Roman remains.
Our top designer visited the city to produce copious drawings leading to unique designs which, when approved, were delivered to our workshop where master craftsmen expressly trained in working with ebony hand turn, then painstakingly carve each ornament in a process that takes near on three months.
These imperious chessmen are magnificent in their aesthetic beauty and commanding presence on a chessboard. The knights in particular are worthy of note, endowed as they are with muscular yet composed expressions. They take the longest to make as a single knight carver ensures perfect uniformity of each piece, something we insist upon for our luxury chess sets. Alongside them the bishops, featuring a unique bulbous head design, exude an air of authority on the board as they protect their royal superiors.
Reigning supreme in this luxury chess set are without doubt, the royals. Observe the King’s distinctive urn-shaped crown and flowered finial, sitting on a thick base and perfectly weighted body beside the sublime aestheticism of his statuesque queen.
To complement these luxury chessmen, we have paired them with a Spanish made walnut chess board of outstanding quality. Framed with a fine line of ebony with walnut and maple veneers of the highest grade, the board is expertly finished.

The chess board in this set has been expertly crafted by Rechapados Ferrer in Spain using precision laser cutting techniques and stunning wooden veneers combined with expert lacquering and finishing. The underside of the board is finished in a satin veneer that is a different color from the playing surface of the board. The veneers used for the underside may vary in color from batch to batch.
