The Highclere Series chess pieces are finished to an unmatched standard, with the classic Staunton design. The 3 inch (76 mm) king height means these chessmen are relatively compact, but there is no compromise with the excellence of the craftsmenship. The conservative detailing of the knight is as traditional as it gets, and of particular note are the concave curved shanks and wide bases. Each piece is crafted, balanced, weighted and polished by hand and finished with a green felted base.
The chessmen glide effortlessly across the Italian artisan glossy, lacquered briarwood and elm board. This type of board-finish offers a level of opulence and, practically, affords protection and strength to the board surface.
To complete this set we have included a hand-made, flock lined, solid sheesham chess piece case, polished with beeswax.
