These traditional Staunton Chess Pieces offer excellent quality and yet still represent superb value for money. The quality of finish and attention to detail on these solid wooden chessmen is far beyond what you expect from such a modestly priced set.

As you would expect, each chess piece has been expertly turned and carved from solid boxwood with the black pieces undergoing “ebonization” - a process that convincingly renders the appearance of real ebony wood without its price tag. Each piece is then weighted and felted on the base.

The 3.5-inch king height and their colouring make these chessmen a perfect match for the beautifully crafted “tiger-stripe” ebony and maple chess board. Manufactured by our esteemed chess board maker Rechapados Ferrer S.A. of Spain, a veneered construction method is used for the playing surface with wenge wood veneer used on the board's base. Modern fabrication techniques are used, creating a chess board with clean, precise lines and highly critical detailing. Natural, untreated ebony has a rich, contrasting dark grain which is simply stunning and well suited to contemporary interior designs.
