The Highclere Series Ebony Staunton Chess Pieces are highly detailed and superbly finished small chessmen. They adhere to the classic Staunton design, with beautifully carved knights and bishops. Supplied by the same chess workshop that produces some of the world's finest chessmen, the set comprises a 3 inch king and whilst the set is relatively compact in size, no sacrifices are made where detail or excellence are concerned. Each perfectly balanced and weighted piece is polished by hand and their broad bases are covered with green billiard cloth.
We at the Regency Chess Company take time to perfectly match pieces to quality Chess Boards, and for these Highclere Chess Men we have selected this superbly presented wooden chess board crafted from quality walnut and maple veneers. The reputable family Manopoulos, based in Greece who produced this 19.7 inch board, is renowned for their expertise in marquetry and backgammon sets. This board has a delightful old fashioned artisan feel and look about it.
To complete this set, we have added a perfectly constructed chess piece case in laminated dark wenge coloured wood. This superb piece is also made by the expert craftsmen at Manopoulos in Greece, so you can be assured of the impeccable quality of this product. The elegance of this box is enhanced by brass colour hinges and the Manopoulos signature brass clasps to secure the lid.
This combination of chess pieces, board and quality storage box creates a beautifully traditional and timeless classic chess set for your home.
Please note that when the chessmen are placed in the box it is normal and intentional for them to be laid horizontally on top of each other. They are NOT intended to stand up inside the box.
