Ebony and Walnut Parthenon Large Chess Set

Spanish-made near Barcelona, the large deluxe walnut and maple chess board in this set has sublime attention to detail, with sharp lines and inlays supported by grain-matched playing squares and a robust matt finish lacquered surface. The rich browns, reds and yellows of the walnut complement the black ebony and yellow boxwood chessmen perfectly. The end result is a very traditional looking chess set with some subtle hints from classical architecture.

The design of The Parthenon chessmen is based on the familiar Staunton lines but have a more classical, columnar look. They are luxurious, elegant and exquisitely finished in ebony and graded boxwood. This is most noticeable in the shape of the long shanks and the angular lines of the bishop's mitre. Each chess piece is well balanced, weighted and then polished to a very high sheen without the use of artificial or synthetic waxes or lacquers.
