The Reynard the Fox fables are among the longest-established literary traditions in Western history and feature Reynard as the central character, surrounded by beasts satirically taking the places of various human character tropes. These humourous tales even had Geoffrey Chaucer basing some of his writing on them.
The fables have proven so popular that the word 'renard' has replaced the word for fox in French. Reynard is is cowardly and self-seeking, and yet a sympathetic hero and a strikingly accurate mirror of the human condition.
Based in Somerset in the UK, the master craftsmen at Berkeley Chess have interpreted these beloved and charming characters and adapted them into this beautiful chess set, with a unique, pewter and copper metallic finish.
