The fables of Reynard the Fox comprise of beasts satirically taking the places of various human character tropes and are among the longest-established literary traditions in Western history - with even Geoffrey Chaucer basing some of his writing on them.
Reynard the Fox himself ties the various tales together and these humourous stories have proven so popular that the word 'renard' has replaced the word for fox in French. Reynard himself is a sympathetic hero, although cowardly and self-seeking, and a strikingly accurate mirror of the human condition.
These beloved and charming characters have been lovingly adapted by the master craftsmen at Berkeley Chess in Somerset, UK creating this wonderful chess set, with a rich cream and russet brown finish.
